Little rays of sunshine

There are notes of happiness tucked into each fold of our lives. They take just a little bit of our time, just enough to be conscious of our surroundings. We so often switch on the ‘autopilot’ mode, that we get past our day-to-day ‘tasks’ similar to machines.

Little joys of life are always around; it is that either we are too busy or uninterested to pay heed to these happy moments. If we were to see them on a colour scale, they would probably have the brightest splashes of colour, otherwise difficult to ignore. But since we have trained ourselves to only notice what we deem to be important or needing our attention, we tend to miss these little joys, sprinkled in each life, to add colour, warmth, light or spice, you name it.

They could be any of the following, or similar ones that bring a smile –
– spotting a rare sight, it could just be a rare bird if dwelling amidst concrete buildings.

– an unexpected nudge from a cat or dog who wants to be petted.

– listening to children talk; how the things that are trivial to us are of wonder or of utmost seriousness to them.

– a silly typo that you come across on signboards/messages or even the ones you made and corrected (typing little rats of sunshine did make me smile).

– happy coincidences, such as a song you had been humming or thinking about and which you get to hear on your shuffled playlist or better still- on the radio.

– meeting friends or classmates that you haven’t seen since your childhood days.

– getting to help someone, especially an elderly person, for whom crossing a road or finding directions or using new technology related stuff may seem worrisome.

– something that you are stuck with and expect to have to spend more time/effort on, but ends up being fixed with little to no effort.

– spotting a fun friend or getting to know a like-minded person at a boring gathering or event.

– some phone or lift/elevator conversations sound funny, specially when they are meant to be exclusive but are spoken in the language you know.

– pet and owner interactions are fun too. I once saw a lady try in vain, to get her huge dog to move. Many people asked her if the dog was tired and she patiently explained how that breezy place was her dog’s favourite spot.

– traffic-jam free rides.

Let us see if we can spot any such Easter eggs that were meant to brighten our mundane days.
What made you smile today?
