The fire that rages

I can tell you your future,
Let me know when to commence.
I can’t work my magic though,
If you won’t let me hold the reins.

The series of events that I trigger-
Have regret, mainly, and helplessness.
And when I pair with ego,
I bring cracks in the strongest of ties.

I work on the simple principle-
‘Words once spoken can’t be taken back’.
Since it’s easy to jump the gun,
Haste is my staunch companion.

I have been called a lot of names,
But the one that suits me better-
Is that I am the poison, that works
On the one, who wished it for another.

Yes, I am rage, and some think that-
My downfall is in asking for pardon.
Haven’t they heard- ‘what is done in anger,
Can be forgiven but not forgotten’.
