Avalanche?

This is what Earth has been transformed to. There is nothing here but barren lands; snow as far as one can see. Food is scarce, the sun is almost always hidden by either fog or nights. I can see a few houses shaped just like mine, all along in a row, but nothing comes out or moves around. These are the only patches of color, scattered here and there. It all gives the feel of an abandoned wild west movie set, void of winds. The only difference being, there is no color or sight of land or life. No tinges of mud or dirt or sand, it is mostly white, everywhere, in whatever is visible to the eye.

Every once in a while a giant tremor starts off, followed by a couple of smaller jerks, and then it snows, all around, but only for a while. The tremors are less than before now but when they are felt, they seem to be powerful.
And then there are times when the jerks and tremors feel too much in frequency and it snows many times too, almost as if the tremors are somehow setting off the snow.

Another incredible thing- it is eerily quiet here, at all times! It is as if I am the lone survivor of a mass destruction. The sudden stops in the shakes, somehow make the silence seem louder!

I have taken up a trek, to see what is further ahead. Surely something or someone apart from me must be around here, somewhere. It seems like I have walked for days. I really can’t tell how the time works here, can’t make out how many days have passed, because of no change in anything but light, feeble light.

When I finally get to what I feel is the edge of my village, I can’t believe my eyes. Everything happens so quickly. A giant is walking towards me but there is something like a transparent shield between him and me. And then a giant hand comes towards the shield and I suddenly know what the tremors are from!

WHAT! It can’t be! How can Earth be a giant’s snow globe! What’s going on!

And then I heard a voice, a voice after all that silence! I am not sure if I heard it right. Is that .. is that my name? Yes, I heard it a couple of times and then the yells-

‘WAKE UP. RUN. OUR CABIN IS GOING TO BE BURIED IN THE AVALANCHE.’
