You must have heard of the recipe for success and/or recipe for disaster. I thought that I should share my recipe for ‘holding on’, through success or failure, when the going gets tough, when we start to doubt ourselves, when things seem hard and worries keep coming back to brood on our heads. Let’s start-
When you have your batch of troubles, (they are very common, everyone has their fair share, just don’t go looking for them!) they may come with these too-
A tad of fear
A dash of worry
A pinch of salt
A smidgen of self-doubt
Do use the salt, others are optional. When using them, remember to keep them minimal.
Saute this mixture on low heat, adding composure, bit by bit, while stirring. Let the fire of anger be on low, we need to avoid curdles and burns. Sprinkle mustards of faith, and add some oil of hope, while gently folding through the batch.
Quick tip- the secret ingredient is to take it slow, courage and patience are the best spices that can be added here.
At this stage, you should see the batch of troubles looking a lot smaller than when you started. Now remove it off the heat and let it cool down a bit, before you start rolling them into tiny balls.
Pro tip- keep counting your blessings as you get the batch rolled into tiny chunks, this gets through them faster and makes them light.
Sort them into the ones that you have no control on and the ones that you can change. Wisdom will get you through this. While doing this, many go back to the most commonly used methods- self pity, complaining and grumbling, but believe me, these just add color, the artificial kind, and don’t help in any other way.
Talking about it is certainly better than bottling things in, but use acceptance, humour and wit instead. These colors are brighter and healthier for you.
Take help in getting through your batch and aid others with theirs; kindness and encouragement make the process simpler.
When the batch is done, bake the ones that you can change, with the best of your effort, and you will get to savour the fruits of your labour. The rest will just need time. The more you follow this recipe the stronger you get and you will soon be a pro at handling batches on your own. Happy cooking!
