Yen Mask – Part 2

Justin grew up listening to his uncle talk about how millionaires made money or rather saved it by ‘making donations’ to so-called orphanages or NGOs. They save money on publicity and taxes, because the ‘donations’ go to paper companies- the ones that are on paper but don’t actually exist.

His uncle had served the Murdochs for more than thirty years and though he had great respect for Mr.Murdoch Sr.- the one who had hired him, he felt that the recent heir had only worked on amassing wealth.

Justin had planned to be the asset advisor to Murdoch’s corporation. He had taken his time. They needed someone discreet, efficient, reliant and who worked without being seen. He was a professional at this, and more. His success in other firms had finally given him his dream job.

His calls on assets made a series of profitable transactions and his knowledge and expertise sealed his spot.

And then they woke up to the news headlines ‘Murdoch donates $12M to orphanages’. Justin called up the office that usually called him. He tried to tone down the urgency and shock when he asked when these transactions were made and if anyone could give him more details on it. They said that they had been trying to reach Mr.Murdoch as well and were waiting for him to respond.

Justin waited for what seemed to be an hour and called again. He told them that it could be a hacker attack and asked if he can be connected to Murdoch directly. He was asked to wait for their call.

After what seemed to be another hour, he got a call with the most surprising short message he had ever heard – ‘Mr.Murdoch says that this was how it was to go and that he doesn’t want it brought up again’.

Justin knew the belief that Murdoch had in supernatural powers would be useful. Finding the right item, getting a lore created was the start; the source page being editable was a huge plus. Then at the bidding, he had to bait the other bidder to go higher, and show the close win.

For a little detailing, he had to find a food item ad, it happened to be salmon pie recipes with delectable images splashed across the page, in the newspaper that went to the Murdochs. He then placed ads and articles on it, in all of Murdoch’s usual sites for a couple of days. This was the easiest way to get Murdoch craving for the pie.

He just needed to know when the mask would be tried the next time, his uncle relaying stories of foolishness from his workplace got him what he wanted, and then he got busy getting the wire transfers done to four different orphanages.

He was certainly what they wanted- discreet. No outsider knew that he worked for the Murdochs, for others he was a security analyst and a pro hacker.

He knew that he had only one chance and that he had to make it count.

He was right; the Yen Mask was revered and got the best spot in the private gallery, but was never taken out again.
