A penny for your thoughts

There’s a lot to write about the mysterious and incredible working of the brain. It is a mass of cells just like the other parts of the body, but what makes it unique is that the cells making it up- neurons, are different from the rest. These are made to receive and send electrochemical signals, so they can control the various functions that we relate to the brain, and more.

Researchers and neurologists are used to the various facts surrounding the brain that astound us, and the numerous new discoveries that show how little we know of the brain.

You don’t need to be a neurologist to know how unique your brain is. Even the basic reflex where you automatically pull your hand away when you sense something hot, shows how quick the cells transmit the signals. All the ‘autopilot’ parts of your life that you may not even notice anymore – most of which are deemed ‘muscle’ memory, the brain is the mastermind behind those too.

As signals are involved in those tiny neurons controlling all the other parts of the body, the brain functions in mysterious ways. This must be why all the sayings formed – ‘mind over matter’, ‘willpower’, and also the various superpowers ‘created’ in literature- telepathy, mind manipulation and such.

Since signals are used in brain cell communication, brain freeze could be a power failure, and sleep is the much needed shut-down to maintain the large amount of ‘power’ coursing through us. And every thought in our mind is formed by the signals flowing through the neurons.

So, if we had a penny for every thought, there wouldn’t be enough pennies for everyone!
